Loved :: Wednesday's random image of the day

elena wilken

“Find a guy who calls you beautiful instead of hot, who calls you back when you hang up on him, who will lie under the stars and listen to your heartbeat, or will stay awake just to watch you sleep... wait for the boy who kisses your forehead, who wants to show you off to the world when you are in sweats, who holds your hand in front of his friends, who thinks you're just as pretty without makeup on. One who is constantly reminding you of how much he cares and how lucky he is to have you... The one who turns to his friends and says, 'that's her.'”

A thought on passion and purpose :: Tuesday's random image of the day

elena wilken

...From one of the lovely sessions I had this fall. A good looking family, beautiful places and gorgeous light.

I came across this quote yesterday morning, and it stuck with me:

'Some people ask, “What if I haven’t found my true passion?”
It’s dangerous to think in terms of “passion” and “purpose” because they sound like such huge overwhelming ideas.
If you think love needs to look like “Romeo and Juliet”, you’ll overlook a great relationship that grows slowly.
If you think you haven’t found your passion yet, you’re probably expecting it to be overwhelming.
Instead, just notice what excites you and what scares you on a small moment-to-moment level.
If you find yourself glued to Photoshop, playing around for hours, dive in deeper. Maybe that’s your new calling.
If you keep thinking about putting on a conference or being a Hollywood screenwriter, and you find the idea terrifies but intrigues you, it’s probably a worthy endeavor for you.
You grow (and thrive!) by doing what excites you and what scares you everyday, not by trying to find your passion.'

Vintage Babe :: Monday's random image of the day :: Portland Or. Newborn Photographer

elena wilken

Best lit room I've ever had a chance to take photographs in.
It's the model that I am keeping in mind while planning a little indoor natural light studio.

Miss Hazel. You have to check this session out ;) One of the best dressed newborns. Thanks mom!
I've always tried to have  a unique prop for each one of the newborns I've photographed.
Her name inspired the little outfit I thought out and had mom knit for me.

Thanks for stopping by :)

EWCC Free Card Templates available for download on December 8th

elena wilken

For those who asked, the 3 sets of templates I posted on the blog a couple of days ago, will be available for download on MCP Blog. I'll post a reminder on the 8th as well.

Meantime, if you haven't done it before, do go and visit the blog - a wealth of information and really valuable resources - free actions, tutorials, business tips, interviews. It is definitely a blog you want to add to you reader and follow. One of the later articles - written by guest photographer  Jodie Otte, stirred quite a conversation. Hop over and check it out. As a photographer, you'll find the information very valuable, I believe.

Random picture of the day - Sunday :: Smell the rain...

elena wilken

“Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.”

 Ashley Smith

My search for a random picture of the day took me to this session (take a peek at that post if you haven't done that yet) - she is beautiful, the settings and the weather were perfect and there are a ton more of images that I love from this session. One of these days when I get a moment I should go ahead and create a slideshow of them.

The rain drops in the sunshine make the moment magic. :)

Random picture of the day - Saturday :: Life is but a breath...

elena wilken

Today, I was reminded once again how fragile life is... My thoughts are with you and your family, my dear friend. xoxo

“Never allow anyone to rain on your parade and thus cast a pall of gloom and defeat on the entire day. Remember that no talent, no self-denial, no brains, no character, are required to set up in the fault-finding business. Nothing external can have any power over you unless you permit it. Your time is too precious to be sacrificed in wasted days combating the menial forces of hate, jealously, and envy. Guard your fragile life carefully. Only God can shape a flower, but any foolish child can pull it to pieces.”

A step back in time :: my first couple session :: Elena Wilken :: Portland Or. Photographer

elena wilken

Well, this post is a step back in time, in a couple of ways. This was my first couple session, at the beginning of this year. Such a fun session! And I had even more fun in the post processing. I haven't done a lot of textures and vintage up to that point (and since then, for that matter. To be honest I don't know what keeps me back, because I truly love it... maybe just the thought of what I think customers would expect from me and what sells. But they expect whatever they see you produce, in the first place. Well, this is a whole another story and post in itself...).

There are a couple of vendors out there that I really love, who create awesome tools for photographers. And Nichole V is one of them. Check out her beautiful photography. If you are a photographer, I guarantee you'll love her awesome textures (I used some of them in the post processing of these images) and actions. What I love about her stuff is that is does not put you in a box. All her actions give you a start in the post processing and give you free reign in the creative process. You are able to tweak the different adjustment layers to your liking while starting with a very solid base.

These images made me think so much of old times, with hand color tinted black and white photos and rock solid, "I'm here for you forever" kind of love :) With a bit of an urban flavor, here's a step back in time...

Keep your eyes on the blog. As I am planning to work more with couples over the next year, I would like to kick start the year with a few personal concept sessions. I will be posting more details about a call for models over the next month and a half.

Thank you for stopping by and have an awesome week! :)
